Take a look inside

What is Yunus and the Giant Fish about?

Yunus and the Giant Fish is an interactive Islamic story for children aged 4 to 7 that retells the Prophet Yunus's (AS) time inside the giant fish and the dua he made from its belly.

Children follow Yunus as he leaves his people, boards a ship in a storm and is swallowed by a whale. In the dark, he turns to Allah and asks for forgiveness, and Allah answers him. Each page asks your child to do something: calm the waves, find Yunus in the deep, or help the fish carry him safely to the shore.

The story teaches that no place is too dark for a dua, that it is never too late to say sorry to Allah, and that patience brings relief. It is based on the Qur'an and has been reviewed by Islamic scholars.

The story of Yunus and the Giant Fish

Long ago, Allah sent Prophet Yunus (AS) to the people of the city of Nineveh. He called them to worship Allah alone, but they would not listen. Day after day they turned away, until Yunus grew upset and left the city without waiting for Allah's permission.

He walked to the sea and boarded a ship full of people and goods. Out on the water, a great storm began. The waves rose higher than the mast, and the sailors were afraid the ship would sink. They decided that one person must leave the ship to make it lighter, and they drew lots to choose. Each time, the lot fell on Yunus.

Inside the whale

Yunus went into the sea, and Allah sent a giant fish to swallow him. Inside its belly it was dark: the darkness of the night, the darkness of the sea and the darkness of the fish. But Yunus was not alone, because Allah was with him.

In the dark, Yunus remembered Allah and called out: "There is no god but You. Glory be to You. I have been one of the wrongdoers." He was sorry for leaving his people, and he asked Allah to forgive him.

Back to the shore

Allah heard his dua. He commanded the fish to carry Yunus to the shore and to leave him on the sand. Yunus was weak and tired, so Allah made a gourd plant grow over him to give him shade and food until he was strong again.

When Yunus returned to his people, he found that they had believed in Allah while he was away. More than a hundred thousand people now worshipped Allah, and they lived in peace.
